What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a gentle, hands-on, non-invasive form of manual therapy that focuses on improving how your whole body works together. Instead of just treating symptoms, the osteopathic manual practitioners are searching for what is the root cause of the symptoms and the miscommunication between the tissues.  Their goal is to re-establish proper communication of these tissues in a way that is effective and not painful for the client.

They will use a combination of their deep functional anatomical understanding, highly refined palpatory skills and principle based osteopathic knowledge to asses and treat the body.

It is key to note that every body is unique in it's development and how it compensates from challenges it faces in the day to day and over the years. Therefore it is important for your treatment to be personalized based on your body's unique needs.

Initial Osteopathic Assessment & Treatment

(Up to 30 Minute Length)

Everyone's first session will be an initial Osteopathic Assessment and Treatment.

Here we will go over your health history and what brings you into the clinic. We will also go over whether you know what osteopathy is, what the treatment will look like, and make sure we are on the same page for expectations from the treatment that day.

Ensuring that there are no safety concerns for your health, we will continue with the treatment. If for some reasons there are, we will stop the session and refer you out appropriately to ensure your health is not put at unnecessary risk.

Following treatment, there will be a brief review of what was found and how structures were loading and being distributed through your body. From here we will develop a treatment plan together over the next 4-6 weeks to have you be on the best possible path to returning back to your optimal health.

Follow-up Osteopathic Sessions

General Osteopathic Follow-up Session

(Up to 30 Minute Length)

This is for everyone between the ages of 16-65 years of age. where you will have a brief review of how you have felt since your last treatment and if there are any new concerns.

From there, we then move to treatment and finish with another review of how the body is loading and distributing forces, noting where there are improvements and areas to be worked on. Concluding with the OMP recommending whether the next session should be in one, two, four weeks or if they think you don't need anymore.

Senior Follow-Up Sessions

(20 Minute Length)

These sessions are for individuals over the age of 65. They are identical to the General Osteopathic Follow-up Sessions, just shorter. The reason for this is as we get older, the body is not able to 'take on' as much of the treatment without running the risk of overtreating and having negative health outcomes instead of positive ones.

Shortening the length of treatment, greatly increases the effectiveness of treatment, limiting risk and using only the time we need with the client to address their health concerns.
